Bay Hawks, Wellington Saints stay unbeaten

The front-running Bay Hawks and Wellington Saints kept up their unbeaten starts to the National Basketball League season on Friday night. The Hawks, in Paul Henare’s coaching debut, improved to 7-0 with a 89-74 home win over the Auckland Pirates in Napier, while the Saints came away with a high-scoring 124-102 win over the Taranaki Mountain Airs from their trip to New Plymouth, their fifth win of 2011.

Hawke’s Bay tourism operators are reportedly strongly in support of the new brand for the region, unveiled last week. It replaces the old Hawke’s Bay Wine Country logo. Hawke’s Bay Tourism general manager Annie Dundas praised the commitment of adman and Hall of Famer Kim Thorp and HB Tourism chair George Hickton who drove the development of a new branding image. Ms Dundas said the rest of the country would see the new brand for the first time at TRENZ and the first regional campaigns using the new image and approach were planned to emerge in September.

Dannevegas: Who's in the money?

The couple who won $17.7 million on a Lotto ticket bought in Dannevirke said they would go to work this morning as usual. The North Island couple said they had been "on the bones of our arses forever" and would now be set up for life. The pair who are married with children, said they bought a Lotto combo ticket every week, but the husband last week urged his wife to buy an extra powerball ticket for the big draw and that was the winner. "We were then in shock, we must have checked those numbers about 10 times," the wife said. "It didn't seem real, we had been joking all Saturday about what we would do if we won, and now we actually had!

Napier will 'Give Aussies a Break'

Napier yesterday launched an innovative campaign called ‘Give an Aussie a Break’ to encourage more Australians to visit. Locals want to show support and comradeship to their Australian friends after the devastating Queensland and Victorian floods, so the Napier City Council in conjunction with the city’s tourism operators and accommodation providers have put together holiday deals to help give Australians a break.
