Transitions: Green elements for a Christchurch rebuild

Posted by Ellerslie Flower Show on 23 February 2012 | 0 Comments

Christchurch residents’ desire for a greener central city – clearly expressed through the Share an Idea programme and translated into a very green Draft Central City Plan – inspired Landcare Research to design an Ellerslie International Flower Show exhibit that showcases some of the possibilities. Exhibit designer Colin Meurk, a Landcare Research ecologist (above), says that in redeveloping the central city Christchurch has a unique opportunity. “We can transition to a new, more confident, multi-layered city that is an attractive, relevant and viable place for people. One of those story layers is our unique natural history.

The Johnnys play The Free House

Posted by The Free House on 21 February 2012 | 0 Comments

SAT Feb 25th, 8pm: THE JOHNNYS. The Johnnys may be based in little old Nelson NZ but it turns out they are the world's first all female Johnny Cash Tribute Band! However The Johnnys are not a regular tribute band but rather ‘play tribute’ to 'The Man in Black' and there's no doubt that if Johnny Cash were still alive he would love 'The Johnnys' and not because they are girls! The Johnnys deliver Cash like no one has ever heard it before but without even a whisper of a baritone on stage. What you will hear is however is sensitive yet character-filled renditions of all of the Cash classics, coloured with goosebump breaking vocal harmonies, infectious undertones of the Pacific and a rhythm section Johnny Cash himself would have been happy to play with! Add to that Fray’s (aka Johnny) interesting historical Cash commentary between songs and The Johnnys are a world class show, not to be missed! Door Sales $10

Mudhouse Wines find favour

Posted by Travel Memo on 17 February 2012 | 0 Comments

The Mud House Wine Group marketing manager Cathy Wansink says SAS-Scandinavian Airlines will be serving the celebrated 2010 Mud House Sauvignon Blanc to its business
class guests from June this year. The same wine has also been selected for Singapore Airlines business class flights, she says. Wansink says the company is thrilled to have also found favour with Australia’s national carrier, with Qantas choosing the 2009 Mud House Swan Pinot Noir for its business class. The company’s wines are also a huge hit with Air New Zealand, which chose to serve its popular 2008 Waipara Hills Waipara Chardonnay on international business premier class flights recently. “The 2010 Mud House Central Otago Pinot Noir has been selected by Air New Zealand for international economy class flights and will be available in the near future, while the 2009 varietal can be enjoyed in Koru Lounges throughout the country already,” says Wansink.
