Dunedin hosts three ships at once

On one morning last week Dunedin’s Port Chalmers handled the arrival of three cruise ships – Diamond Princess, Radiance of the Seas and Oceanic Discovery – which disgorged a total of more than 7000 people, the equivalent of about 20 Boeing 747s.

Dunedin customer service stars recognised

Delivering lost property to people all over Dunedin is just part of the service for 68-yearold Dunedin International Airport customer service officer Gordon McDonald. Gordon’s dedication to his airport customers was recognised at a special event for Dunedin’s KiaOraMai graduates at the Forsyth Barr Stadium this week.

This magnificent gingerbread replica of Christ Church Cathedral has been painstakingly created by the US-born lodge owners of Oamaru’s Pen-y-bryn Lodge.James Boussy (L) and James Glucksman (R) spent more than 100 hours designing, baking, putting together and icing their gingerbread version of the 130-year-old Christchurch icon.

Rob Fyfe reassures on London ops

In his latest message to Air New Zealand staff, CEO Rob Fyfe has responded to mounting concerns about the airline’s commitment to maintaining the NZ-London route. He says: “It’s no secret that we are struggling to make London profitable, just as our competitors are also struggling in this task, not just on London but on most ultra-long haul routes. Passenger numbers are flat at best and, when put against the backdrop of economic turmoil in Europe, any pick up in demand for long haul air travel from London looks unlikely in the foreseeable future.
